SUN GRIP story

I was born and raised in Takada City, Niigata Prefecture, one of the snowiest places in Japan. 

Since I was a kid, I’ve practiced in the back of my home, known as the birthplace of skiing. I participated in the National Sports Festival.

Skiing tools have undergone technological innovation year by year, and skiwear has been steadily developed. However, in the 1980s when Japan was experiencing a bubble economy, skiwear was made gorgeous with lots of metal accessories. In the late 1980s, ski wear was no longer not only satisfied with in sporting function, but also became stronger at fashion element; it became heavy and heavy within a lot of extra apparel.

When I was tired after a long day of skiing, I took off my ski wear, I was thinking about what I could do to make this heavy suit light.

We imported the Fiocchi's oversized snap buttons from Italy and sold to every ski manufacturer at the time. The oversized buttons inspired me to 

consider how to use about 20 sets in a pair of ski suit.

In order to make it light without compromising the fissionability of skiwear, I wanted to make it in plastic material.

Through various researches and referring to the snap button ALFA3 design of Fiocchi in Italy, in early 1990, the brand Sun Grip SG1000 was developed. 

Including the weight of the button CAP, the overall weight can be reduced to 1/3 of the original metal.

The SG800, SG600, and SG300 were subsequently developed and used for various purposes.

Won the Good Design Award for the first time as a button, and continued to be released in 2012 won Long Life Good Design Award for product design

for over 10 years, and the Asia Design Award Bronze Award, an international design award in 2013 was awarded.
